This month…

I deliberated with myself hoping to come up with ways to enhance my present. How to possibly chase after my passions in music, art, and fashion and maintain my career. Ways to protect my sons innocence all the while being able to properly prepare him for a competitive future. So far I haven’t found the answers but instead discovered a peace in knowing that my curiosity means I’m headed in the right direction.

In OTHER news…
A few months ago, I got some free tickets from Regal Cinema. My Mummie and I went to see Iron Man 3 which is by FAR the best movie in the history of all Marvel movies (I DARE you to beg to differ, lol). Tony Stark is more relatable,  hilarious and spunkier than ever. There’s a transparency in this part of the trilogy that allows you to feel the moral and enjoy the action and humor in the midst.

Let’s Go To The Park!

For the past few weeks, I’ve been working like a maniac!
50+ hour work weeks have kept me away from doing some of the things I most enjoy…
Late night dinner with the ladies, Reality T.V. with mi madre, and most importantly, hang time with my chipmunk, Zac. To make up for time lost, I took the most important man I know out for an evening at the park.
The weather had been awesome the entire day. I couldn’t miss a moment!

Farewell to The Gap

This year gave me quite a bit to look forward to.
I was lucky enough to be hired to work with one of the most well-received stores in the Downtown Brooklyn area, gain an unexpected promotion within my arrival and learn some overwhelming news along the way.
The store I most recently said farewell to will now share farewells themselves.
The Flatbush Avenue Gap at Kings Plaza will be closing down.
It’s quite a surprise to hear.
The store that once housed a beautiful variety of Men’s, Women’s, Kids, and Baby clothing will no longer be. Loyal customers will now have to travel as far as Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, or 17th and 5th, considering the unfortunate closing of South Street Seaport from Hurricane Sandy.
Originally, Kings Plaza was the shoppers destination for local Brooklynites and Gap was the place to find your must have basics. As the economy changed and gentrification reared its head, the need for the mall changed. Security tightened up as rambunctious after school shoppers participated in unfortunate mayhem and assisted in the downgrade.
I was given the opportunity to work with wonderful people and learned more humbling and lifelong  lessons there than at any other Flagship location in my 5 year Gap history. I applaud and salute the ten year team and those who desired to make a difference.
The store may be closing its doors as early as the 26th of January.

Word on the street is, alongside Gap’s inability to make quota, the property owners were not interested in downsizing and rebuilding the space and may be utilizing it as a Food Court.

How strange is that?

Here are a few pics of Gap Kings Plaza- hard work and merchandising.

What is your reaction to Gap at Kings Plaza’s closing? Is it well needed or could it just use re-vamping?

Zac is PRO-BAMA!

SO…
Election Day was the highlight of my year thus far. I’ve been waiting for the determination of Obama’s re-election and  must say I am more than proud to have voted!
Although my chipmunk couldn’t quite join me in the booth, he DID make a difference in driving the energy behind my campaigning!

I used cotton Henley shirt by The Gap and had the Obama HOPE logo printed. The shirt in total cost me an entire 17 bucks!

Chill Before the Storm

Church this Sunday went pretty well. My Mom was able to make it out seeing as we had a mini car accident on our way out last Sunday.
I was able to catch a few flicks on the way…
My chipmunk looked mighty handsome I must say.

Sunday Morning with Zac!

Zac and I have been pretty busy lately. Between my new job at The Gap, early mornings and late nights, apartment hunting, we haven’t had much time to update MomMe. Although we have been absent, there are much photographs to document the happenings!

This Sunday in particular, we took on the journey of traveling to Freeport, Long Island for church. Of course, I took an extra hour to get ready, missed the scheduled train, hopped in a cab, to wind up 30 minutes early for the next bus. All was well. It gave us extra time to take photographs of Zac in his super cute bow tie! Believe it or not, I found it in H&M’s Mens department while shopping with my good friend Fred “The Writer” Green

Bigger. Better. MORE!

This week marks my LAST FEW DAYS at the Gap in Kings Plaza.
Ive been lucky enough to work at flagship stores like The Gap on Fifth Avenue or Old Navy in SoHo but it seems KP has been the most influential. Coming in as management trainee, learning how to develop and work as a team- it seems I’ve learned more here than in all my years of service. Most people hear “Kings Plaza” and wonder why’d one would choose to work somewhere as difficult but, I’ve realized its better to start with the hard and end with the easy.  I’ve developed and have been able to work with so many great people. Although having been there for one year exactly, I can already tell I’m not letting go of any one of em lol.
Thayne, Anna, Vaughn, Grace, CLINT, the Visual Team, Cashiers, Hassan and those darn Mannequins, Ms Liz and her rolling rack, Ms Kelly and her stock room, ALL of you guyses…
DIPSET! DIPSET! DIPSET!

HERE are a few pics of the hard work with limited resources…

Backpacking+ with the Boys!

Accessories for boys can be one of the toughest things to come by.
Sometimes as parents, we’ll spend the entire day hopping from store to store praying we’ll find that one perfect thing for our guys to wear; meanwhile, the Mom over on the opposite side of the store happily skips to the cashier with her cute girly bows and bandanas.
One thing I’ve been lucky enough to learn is that, our guys know what they like. Give them an opportunity to play around and get a feel for what they want. Maybe on a shopping trip, grab a hat. Try it on. They’ll tell you if they think its hot or not.

I’ve been lucky enough to have the coolest guy around! Zac would GLADLY inform me if he’s not digging his look. For the first few months, my family and I realized he had a fascination with watches. He’d just stare and drool just a little more than usual when his God-Father passed by… eyes fixated on the watch alone. The moment he turned 1 1/2, I figured it was time I tried it out. Since then, it’s become a staple in his every day look.

Not to mention the signature Messenger cap, Bow Tie, Neck Tie just to add a few are his go-to pieces.

More recently, Zac has fallen in love with “The Back Pack” (or as he would say, “Bah-Patch”). Oh boy, we couldnt DARE leave without it. While we were shopping for his Daddy Sponsored birthday threads, we stumbled across a football backpack at The Children’s Place
From then on, the two haven’t parted ways.
It’s a great way to give them a start of independence if they haven’t started Day Care already. Not to mention, it takes a load off the purse and the baby bag.
A smooth step out of baby days and into Toddler-ism.

Here are a few Highlights of cute looks I’ve stumbled across from Toddler Boys

A Bit About Me

Most people know me for my sense of humor, outspokenness, high-energy, and most importantly, my son Zachary (otherwise known as Zac). From the day he was born, my life changed. It became a little more exciting. A little more interesting. Instead of using make-up or having cute shoes or a wearing a great hair cut, I have the cutest, most liveliest accessory in this guy (but I’ll address his coolness in the following issue)

I’m a Visual Merchandiser at The Gap so, I have a lot of fun meeting new people, styling them and their families and just making things look beautiful. You’ll be able to see some of the work my Brand team and I have done. I’ve been lucky enough to work at many different stores within the East Coast, met tons of great people in the midst of it.

There are a lot of interesting characters in my life. My VERY West Indian-American mother, my perfectly HILARIOUS older sister, a few eccentric and unusual friends you may get to know and love as well. Throughout my journal, I hope you’re able to use us as a reference for fashion from real life people. With real incomes. And real responsibilities. ๐Ÿ™‚
