H&M Insider: What to Expect During an H&M Interview

Having worked for H&M for several weeks,
there were many things I’ve learned about the company…
Their points of view…
Perspectives on leadership…
and the many opportunities provided.
I started my training at the Columbus Circle Location
(which in my opinion is the best store to shop!!)…
FLASHBACK!
About two weeks after my group interview, I had my final interview with the hiring manager and a store manager of another location. They had me walk one of the stores and share what it was that I noticed that needed to be updated…
That moment was used to determine my ideologies and priorities as a store leader.
At the end of that small project, I learned that the store manager I spent that precious hour with was my potential manager, and I had gotten the job as well as my job offer in that day!
FAST-FORWARD!!
H&M prides itself in leadership and advancement. Anyway that you can execute that.
LET THEM KNOW!
I was able to train and learn what H&M looks for in the hiring process. Whether you’re going for a Sales Advisor, Visual Merchandiser, Department Manager, or Store Manager; to ensure your experience is successful, display in as many ways as you possibly can your form of leadership.
MY personal questions I’d ask during interviews are:

“At your previous job, how did you take the lead in a difficult situation?”

“Explain a moment where your co-worker challenged your direction”

“Tell me about a time when you were able to motivate an unhappy co-worker”

Lastly, the biggest piece of information I could share!
Make sure you pay close attention during the online questionnaire.
It’s not just something to pass by…
THAT questionnaire determines whether or not you’ll get that call back and why.
Make sure all of your answers are as independent and solution oriented as possible.
Although, the truth reveals itself in the survey.
This post is intended to inform interested applicants and not to infringe on the policy and procedures of H&M.

  1. I have the 3rd interview this Thursday at the Soho location. I was told it is a group interview and would last about 5 hours. In my mind I was like that's a long process lol. However I'm very nervous idk what to expect. Is this the competition I'm going against

  2. Hi Sharina, So I did the phone interview which was pretty much "why I choose to work at h&m? , What I did at my previous job, etc. Then I had the 2nd/ 1st interview with a manager and recruiter writing down what I said. They basically asked me the same questions. Today, I had the group assessment and I can it was pretty insane but I enjoyed it. They said I should be getting an email or a phone by Monday. What happens next? This process is so long.

  4. Hey! The group assessment was awesome and nerve wrecking. I could never forget that. Although, it seems like you're pretty much at the end of the process. They'll call you and your group back in to the HQ (if they all made it) and you'll get individual offers. I say, go BIG! More than likely, you got it. Unless you didn't get along with the other applicants (your teammates) and you weren't prepared though-out the various segments. You're in the final stage, my friend.
    Good Luck and God Bless

  5. Hello! I have the group assessment on Tuesday and I am quite nervous. What should I do to prepare for it? Also, do you know how long it is? It is my one year anniversary with my boyfriend and I'm hoping it doesn't take too long. If you can respond to this question I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Hi! I would suggest thinking of all your team work skills. Majority of the work there is about team work activities and seeing how you resolve them. Don't try to force your voice and be a leader. Just speak your ideas clearly and if they are accepted then great. If not then keep thinking of ideas or see what work can be done to optimize your time on the the project you will be given. Make sure you complete all of your ideas as you will have to speak on them in front of your group. You'll have to pick a leader. If the leader is not able to express the group idea clearly or seems flustered, then politely interject and support your team while giving the fright answer.

The interview takes a few hours to be honest. Probably 3 if I remember correctly because there are so many segments. They provided snacks and sandwiches for lunch which was nice.

Good luck! Let me know how it goes!

  7. Hi Sharina, I had a phone interview with A recruiter that lasted about an hour, after, I was invited to a face to face interview with two district recruiter. Right after I was asked to fill out a background check. After two weeks I received an email from another district recruiter seeing if I have time to talk to him over the phone. What does this mean? Every interview experience I read on this page consisted of a group assesent. Do you think I will get invited to one after the phone chat with the district recruiter. Thanks Sharina and hope to hear from you soon

  8. Hi Jason,
Congratulations! It sounds to me as if you've gotten the job. Typically, the DM wants to have a quick 3-5 minute call or meeting with their potential leaders. Once that call is complete, you'll hear from HR, hiring manager or your recruiter a day or two later with the offer.

But unless your call goes bad, I'd say it's a go!

  9. Hey Sharina,
I had my first phone interview with a recruiter that lasted about an hour. After I was invited to a face to face with 2 district recruiters. After the interview they asked me to fill out a background check. After two weeks has passed a district recruiter asked if I can chat on the phone with him. What does this mean? Every experienced i read here consisted of a group assessment. Will I be getting invited to one after the chat with the district recruiter? Thanks Sharina and hope to hear from you soon.

  10. Hi Sharina, so I had my first phone interview that lasted about an hour. Later on I was invited to a second interview with 2 district recruiters. After the interview they asked me to fill out a background check. After 2 weeks I received an email from a district recruiter asking if I can chat with him on the phone. What does this mean? Every experienced I read about other peoples experience involved having to do group activity. Do you think I will be invited to do a group activity after the chat with the district recruiter? Thanks Sharina.
